My Students

Students in my first grade class are learning how to become better readers. We are fortunate enough to have a chunk of time for a daily reader's workshop block in our schedule. We desperately need high-quality informational books to improve our comprehension of nonfiction text.

My classroom consists of 20 students who are eager to become better readers.

I love their excitement towards learning and yearn to keep that spark in their eyes. My students' families desire a well-rounded, quality education and are very involved in their life at school. Learning how to become successful readers is crucial because it affects every other aspect of school, now and in the future since everything involves reading.

My Project

If this grant is funded, the resources purchased will be high-interest nonfiction books. Students will read these books during their independent reading time each day. Research proves in order for students to become better at reading, they must have high-interest and high-quality texts on their reading level. This grant will make it possible to provide my students the necessary nonfiction books to improve their ability to read and comprehend nonfiction text.

Thank you for your support in increasing the achievement of the first graders in my classroom.

Not only does your support help my students feel confidence as they become better readers, it also increases their love of reading. By developing a love of reading early in the learning process, these students are more likely to deepen this love of learning as they progress through their educational career and life.
