The art room during a sculpture class is a beehive of activity. Students buzz around the room working in different media while expressing their own personal artistic voice. I would like to offer 3D printing as a source for them to express their personal artistic voice.
My students consist of a mixed group of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
Each student brings in their own personal life story and is free to express that story through their art.
As a charter school we draw students from several different backgrounds, experiences, and economic status. It's my goal to allow them to take all of those life events and transform them into a relevant art project. My students can take important life events and transform them digitally.
Their digital creations can then be 3D printed.
My Project
Recently our 6th grade students have received Chromebooks. We have been exploring the world of 3D modeling and rendering. I would love for my students to be able to produce their digital creations into a physical work of art through the use of a new 3D printer.
This process helps build 21st century skills in all of my students.
Students are captivated by technology.
Allowing students the opportunity to create in a digital space will provide them with the skill sets of the future. With 3dD printing, students will have one more option to explore when it comes to sculpture and design.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
