This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our Early College High School is a STEAM-focused school where we encourage our students to pursue their passions and provide many opportunities for them to create. We have several 3D printers in our Makerspace and robotics lab, and students in multiple classes have access to the 3D printers for anything from prototyping designs to personal projects. Students across all of our STEAM pathways have the opportunity to use the 3D printers, whether it's for functional pieces to solve a problem or sculptural design.
Having access to 3D printers allows our students to apply the engineering design process by giving them the opportunity to see their ideas come to life and then allowing them to iterate on them quickly.
Additive manufacturing and CAD are skills that are highly in demand in today's workforce, and our students are building these skills through the use of the 3D printers. We have provided our students with more opportunities to use 3D printed designs in projects, and as a result, we are also using considerably more filament. This project would provide our students with the necessary filament as well as the storage facilities to keep the filament in good condition under fluctuating humidity conditions in our building. With these materials, our students will be able to keep creating and building their interest in STEM.
