My Students

3D Printing in 3rd grade? Why not! What better way to encourage students to think critically and help them to become better problem solvers? Technology is our future. I want to help my students become the kind of thinkers who can not only survive in that world, but pave the way for others.

I teach in a school where the children come from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and socioeconomic situations.

The majority of my students receive free or reduced price lunch, which means their families are struggling financially. Each year I typically have a few students with learning disabilities and speech needs. It is not uncommon to have one half of my students speak English as a second language.

My Project

I am so very excited about the possibilities this project would bring to my classroom. Being able to take ideas and turn them into 3D representations is so powerful. I look forward to what my kids will get from these experiences...creating models of sound waves, making math manipulatives, and designing replicas of objects we study about in the content areas. I can already think of a few kids who might be drawn into classwork and thus learn more because of the motivation these materials would create. With so many going STEM or STEAM, I feel like this would be an excellent way to introduce my students to these models and philosophies!

Times are changing.

Technology is the way of the future. This project will allow me to lay the foundation for my students to become the critical thinkers and problem solvers our society will need. It will help me show them real world connections as I teach Math, Science, and Language Arts. Thanks so much for helping me bring 3D to 3rd grade!
