My students are full of ideas, energy and curiosity. Before we can answer one question, they are already two steps ahead on the next “What if this…? What if that…?”. Their willingness to question the world beyond their current reality is humbling to me, especially knowing that many of them have never had the opportunity to venture beyond their inner city neighborhoods.
Despite their limited experiences, they intrinsically know that there is more to the world than their eyes can see.
They are not afraid to think outside the box and let their minds wander. They definitely keep me on my toes! They remind me that learning and teaching should be fun.
My students learn best through doing and creating. They love hands-on projects and activities that encourage them to explore and create. Unfortunately, sometimes the curriculum doesn't always meet their needs, so it's my job as an educator to bring new worlds to them.
My Project
Our school has been integrating a variety of STEAM initiatives. Students participate in monthly challenges where they use their own creativity and visions to design projects such as robots, bridges, art work, clothing products and more. Right now their projects are limited to using household items and recycled materials, but we want to expand their horizons.
A DaVinci 3D printer would bring a whole new level of reality to their thoughts and ideas and create the perfect blend of technology and art.
It will allow them to remove the tangible boundaries of the creation process and embrace the belief that if they can imagine it - they can create it.
My students are already limited by their physical worlds, but a 3D printer would allow everyone to play on the same virtual world. They would have the opportunity to take concepts to production – right before their eyes. I have never used a 3D Printer myself, so the thrill of learning together with the support of the DaVinci websites and programs is invigorating. The addition of this tool would support our efforts to inspire future Scientists, Technologists, Engineers, Artists and Mathematicians.
