My Project
Hello and thank you for taking the time to help my students. I teach at Plainfield North High School and I would like our school to start moving toward more engineering and design opportunities in our science labs. We have amazing students but they lack exposure to many of the amazing opportunities that are available to them. With more exposure to things like 3D printing, I hope to inspire more students to enter science and engineering professions in the future. At the very least they will understand how many of their products they purchase can be created.
In the Chemistry classroom we plan to use the 3d printer to make manipulates to see atomic and molecular structures to better understand the VSEPR model.
We will also make manipulates to help with understanding of Ionic Bonding and Ionic Charge. In the AP Classroom students would have engineering opportunities to create galvanic cells.
In the Physics Classroom the engineering opportunities are endless. Mousetrap car parts, building bridges, egg drop design are just a few. We are even thinking of trying to have students build light capture devices to see if they can mimic angler fish in nature!
My goal is to get the ball rolling with a solid 3D printer that will allow my school district to see the engineering opportunities that we are missing out on without 3D printers in all the science labs.
My students are in need of inspiration and motivation. They need to see what options there are out there for study and engineering opportunity. Please help me as I try to open their eyes to new possibilities!
