Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic, love to work with their hands, and are interested in exploring their identities in art. They use art class to release pent up energy and take a little "me time" to relax and loosen up from strict classroom settings. They like to do activities that stimulate their senses which gets them to focus more on the activity at hand. Students think about their likes, interests, and daily routines to showcase bits and pieces of their identities in their artwork.
My students are diverse racially and culturally, which they know and accept.
Whether they were born here, moved or immigrated here, they still come together and learn in the same environment. Even if some students are not confident in visual arts, their peers will help and suggest ideas to help each other at least start their art projects. Students use the art classroom to freely express themselves because they know it's safe or simply have no better place to do so.
My Project
My students are mostly of low-income families and many live in shelters and are constantly moving around. They hardly get the opportunity to interact with technology, let alone one that can lead them to a lifelong career. With a 3D laser printer we can change all that.
A 3D laser printer has the potential to use the students' creativity to open a stable career path for themselves.
In my art class, students try to cultivate their identities and use their life experiences to express themselves in the art world. When a 3D printer is introduced on top of that, students can now brand their work on objects that can easily be sold and accessible for the people around them.
This technology allows for students to present themselves in a professional way and mark themselves, first starting in the school community. The more readily they see the changes their own work has on their surroundings and the positive responses they will receive from people, the more motivated they will be to continue creating more artwork to forge a career path.
