3D Printers to Foster Creativity and Technological Design
Help me give my students access to explore the world of technology with a 3D printer for our technology classroom! With this 3D printer, my middle schoolers can explore more of the world of engineering and design!

My Project
Learning about 3D printing can set students up for future careers in design, engineering, manufacturing, and even fields like healthcare (where 3D printing is already being used for prosthetics and medical models). By incorporating 3D printing into my middle school tech class, I am teaching the students valuable technical skills but also inspiring them to think creatively, solve problems, and work collaboratively. 3D printing often involves group projects where students must collaborate to design, iterate, and print. This fosters teamwork, communication, and project management skills.
3D printers give students the opportunity to bring their ideas to life.
They can design and prototype objects, helping them understand the relationship between digital designs and physical products. This hands-on experience enhances their creativity and critical thinking.
I plan to use the 3D printers with my middle school classes in a "Shark Tank" style project where they will need to create and design a product that can help keep the planet green and clean. Students will design a business plan, sketch and label an initial design, use software to design and scale that drawing, and eventually print a prototype for a presentation.
