3D Printer Project

My Students

The Engineering Science & Design class at my school has students innovating and creating solutions to real world problems. The class is unique at my school because students not only design solutions but they actually build and test them too.

Students at my school are respectful, academically prepared and primarily college bound.

Our upperclassmen lead by example showing time and again they are ready to rise to any challenge. Currently fifty-four percent of our upperclassmen are enrolled in an AP courses. As well, twenty percent of the senior class is currently enrolled in the pilot year of our Nipmuc STEM Scholars program. This program connects academics preparation with job skills and real-world experiences. The program takes place outside of school hours and will include an internship in a STEM related field and will culminate with a public presentation on what each student has learned from the program. These programs show that our students our willing to go above and beyond to both learn and demonstrate their knowledge.

My Project

The Engineering Science & Design class gives them an opening into the engineering design process. Students will use the 3D printer bundle to manufacture custom designed pieces for their engineering projects. Whether it is a specialty beam for use in a structure, a custom wheel for use in a vehicle or the pieces for an entire hydraulic actuator, the printer will allow students to take their designs to a higher level.

More and more of our students state they would like to head into STEM related fields.

Our Engineering Science & Design class introduces students to the engineering design process. The 3D printer would allow a greater range of projects and therefore a more complete exposure to the world of engineering and desktop manufacturing. This exposure will serve our students well by giving them a leg up on their career paths.
