My Students

"Speak their Language" Technology is the language of our 21st century learners. It is what sparks their imagination, creativity and attention!

My 7th - 12th graders are AMAZING!!

I teach in a supportive and progressive system. Our district just passed BYOD and with this our need for technology is exponentially increased. I am a new teacher it is my second year teaching and first year in this district and I feel very honored to be able to teach this group of young people!

My Project

My students need MakerBot 3D Academy Printer Bundle. I teach 3D modeling programs including Goggle SketchUp, SolidWorks, and Chief Architect. The benefit of a 3D printer is to help the students make the practical application connections so everything makes more sense to them. For instance an early Reverse Engineering Project I hand them a wall switchplate (including screws) and they are required to sketch it by hand with accurate measurements (we use micrometers and other precise measuring tools) - Then they draw it on the computer. Often their dimensions are incorrect. If we had our 3D printer we would be able to fabricate it and actually install it on an existing wall in the classroom to see how it fits!

It will help me to empower the students with wonder and curiosity about the future of 3D printing and its endless possibilities!

There are several YouTube Videos we watch in class and the most recent "really cool" one was on a car actually being manufactured completely by 3D printing. If you'd like to see more of this search "The Urbee 3D printed car" in YouTube. This wonder and curiosity are valuable currency for tomorrow.
