This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with some of the most resilient, creative, funny and smart young people I've known. They inspire me every day.
My urban, English learning, mostly low income students face many challenges but surprise me every day with their commitment to improving themselves and their community.
We live in an expensive community who is facing displacement by gentrification and rising rents. 80% of our student body qualifies for free or reduced rate lunch and almost a third of them have special needs. This doesn't stop them from trying their hardest.
My Project
Because of Covid 19. Our students can not be in the ceramics room.
Students will create miniatures or jewelry with air dry clay.
They will have the opportunity to work with their hands in a more engaging way. They are getting tired of drawing and computer-based stuff.
This will be fun and I hope relaxing. A lot of students are experiencing anxiety and these materials could help them play, chill and learn. I will use the same art history material and 3D curriculum but instead of using firing clay we will use playdough and air-dry clay.
