My students need art materials including tempera paint, collage materials, colored pencils and canvases to encourage students to create projects & engage in artistic expression.
Vincent van Gogh once said,"The only time I feel alive is when I'm painting." Art is SO much more than crayons, glue and paper. The materials I am requesting include bright colored tempera paint, 3D wooden squares and people shapes, collage materials, large canvas, and colored pencils.
I have two sessions AM and PM Pre-K classes, with 40 students total.
I work in a low-income school and our program is an At-Risk Pre-K. At-risk factors include low-income, single family homes, incarcerated parent, English as a second language, etc. I also have 32% of my students with IEPs. My students range in age from 3-5 years.
My Project
Art education and exploration is so important to young children. It helps develop creativity, imagination, and critical thinking, it helps build fine motor skills and coordination, works on sharing and taking turns, and it teaches students how to follow-through with an idea or plan from start to finish. I am requesting materials that will be set out during free-choice, center time and students can choose to use the materials as they wish. Students can create projects by painting, using clay or play dough, or a large variety of collage materials such as textured paper, multicultural crayons, foam or wooden shapes, feathers, etc. I want my students to see that the creative possibilities are endless and they can create whatever they can come up with.
Art is obviously such an important curriculum area that is getting eliminated from so many schools and programs and I want to expose my students to as many different activities as possible!
More than half of students from low‑income households
