My Students
In 2008, when I started teaching fifth grade, I was shocked to find that students did not have desks. We asked for seat sacks, and they were graciously donated.
Seven years later, the seat sacks that were used for about 200+ students have now ripped and torn apart! Please help us!
All of my 33 students are amazing to say the least.
We are located in a high needs community, and are working with a gifted population that is extremely diverse. I have students in my class whose parents come from all backgrounds. There are kids from Poland all the way to Guyana. There are kids who were born in New York and kids who immigrated from another country. Our kids come from all boroughs in New York City and are truly unique and special.
My Project
The students will each receive a seat sack that they will be able to put their supplies and notebooks in. It will give them their own personalized space in a classroom that is shared with thirty-three students and one teacher (me)! The seat sack will be reused the next few years, since they are machine washable, and I always wash them before the year ends.
This project will help my students stay organized and will help declutter the classroom.
It will allow students space to grow and learn throughout the year. It will also give students an opportunity to have their own space and place their personal belongings in a place that can be their own this school year. In turn, I am sure that once we are organized, we won't have to worry about finding our notebook in a large bin shared with other students. We will be focused and better learners!
