This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My group of 9th grade Autistic Support students this year are a special bunch. They are overachievers in the academic sense and, I believe they are ready for a challenge that will test their functional academic, interpersonal communication, and transition skills.
The '326 Grab N' Go' project is designed to provide my students with invaluable opportunities to practice essential life skills in a real-world setting.
My goals for this project are multifaceted: the aim is to enhance their independence, improve their communication and social skills, and build their confidence in handling practical tasks. I want to give them the tools they need to transition successfully into adulthood and become active, contributing members of their community.
A student run enterprise will give my students a chance to experience what is like to run a successful business at a manageable scale. I believe that my students have the raw materials to be able to kickstart and maintain this operation. Yamineka is persistent, hard-working, and flexible. Aalim is afable, a customer relationships natural. Xavier is a tinkerer and easy going, up for any challenge! Ziere is enthusiastic, thriving under structure, and so helpful. Kristopher is meticulous and detail-oriented.
This project includes three items: a drink fridge, a pastry display case and a retail display rack. The 326 Grab N' Go will be offering only shelf-stable snacks like chips, candy, and pastries as well as cold drinks. The items will be used to store and display the products as we engage in school-wide deliveries. All of the earnings from this enterprise will be used to sustain the business, for student rewards, and to provide meals to people who most need it in our neighborhood of Frankford, Philadelphia, PA.
