My Students

One fantastic item is just NOT enough for 21 kids. That is the problem I am dealing with right now. My students are fortunate enough to have one Osmo Gaming System, but it is very difficult to manage it in a classroom where ALL of the kids want to use it!

I teach at a small, diverse school in Washington state.

My school is classified as a high-poverty school, with many students on the free or reduced-price lunch program. My classroom of second grade students is always made up of a wide variety of abilities, interests, and challenges. From learning support students, to English language learners, to gifted students, I am here to teach them all and give them the best education!

My Project

Even at their young ages of 7 and 8, I want my students to learn how to work collaboratively with others. I want them to struggle with problems in an effective way -- a way that produces creative solutions and genuine learning from experience. With this project, I am requesting 3 new, innovative devices called Osmo. Osmo was selected as one of Time Magazine's top inventions of 2014. Osmo comes with a device that snaps onto an iPad and comes with 3 different games. Each game requires students to work together to solve different problems. The cool thing about Osmo is that the kids aren't actually using the touch screen of the iPad! They are using actual objects, like tangrams, to physically solve puzzles and problems! The Osmo device that is snapped onto the iPad uses the iPad's camera to transfer the work the kids are doing onto the screen! It is truly a beautiful combination of technology and real, tangible experiences!

With 3 additional Osmos, my students will be able to have one at each of their table groups.

They can work together on all of the games and really benefit from being able to use it consistently, instead of having to wait for days before it is their turn with the one we have now. This is an amazing device that can make a real, positive impact on my students and their learning. Thank you for helping to bring this into my students' lives!
