My Students

Trying to teach geometry without touching and manipulating shapes is practically impossible.

I have 27 kids in my second grade class.

They come from many diverse cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and academic and behavioral levels. We love to do our morning exercises every morning to help jump start our brains. We do workshops everyday which incorporate art and science. This has been one of my favorite classes because they work well with each other and are respectful as a team.

My Project

We have an upcoming unit on geometric shapes. My students need to be able to have tangible objects to manipulate so that they can learn about the vertices, faces, and edges of a shape. With these shapes and kits, my students will be able to understand the differences between the faces, vertices, and edges of each shape which they are required to know based on state standards. These shapes will allow my students to sit in groups and work with each other to learn geometry.

Some children are tactile and visual learners and need to be able to touch the shapes.

With these shapes and kits we will be able to give these children a chance to retain the information and understand about the different attributes of each shape.
