My Students
There is a burning desire and passion in the students and community I teach for technology. They see it in the news, and witness it on their own devices, but never truly get to see it in action first hand.
Living in the heart of the country, and having no straight roads that lead to town, it is a difficult and mind boggling task to get new and innovative technologies to our students.
However, this school, with classes creeping in on 30 large per grade, has shown a strong desire, and a need, for the improvement of our technology. Our school has been on the back-burner of new technology courses and innovative curriculum for a long time.
With a few new staff members and a strong desire by them, to improve the students' learning opportunities, we are trying to branch out and improve the technological learning environments our students live and thrive in!
My Project
By having a 3-d printer for the classroom, our students will be able to learn and experience, first hand, the awesome world of creation and digital manipulation. Through the skills of drafting, and 3-d modeling on computers, the students will be able to manipulate and create their own 3-d images on a computer. Then they will be able to translate their images into real-life models through the 3-d printer.
In addition, we will be able to explore the benefits and impacts of this technology. Ultimately, we will also be able to talk and explore careers of the future in 3-d Printing and modeling!
Coming from a rural community, where the nearest Walmart is 45 minutes away, we don't get to see a lot of new-cutting edge technologies brought to life.
But through this project our students will have the grand opportunity to experience, first hand, what the world of 3-d creation is like. And they will experience the possibility of future careers that we, as adults, could only dream of!
