This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I coach in a Title I school that is located in a diverse, low socio-economic neighborhood in the Bay Area. I currently have 7 eager cheerleaders and am planning to double the size of my team in the upcoming months. They come to every practice and training day enthusiastic and excited to learn new skills and improve on known skills. My goal is to have materials that foster a love of physical education and team sports and a wide variety of skills and knowledge about the sport.

Student-athletes, especially my cheerleaders, love to explore, discover, and perfect skills and techniques and they need the proper safety equipment to make this possible.

I want my student-athletes to have the materials necessary to learn and perfect skills and techniques so that they can a positive, successful, and safe experience.

My Project

Our team is currently using outdated equipment that has been around for about 15+ years. Cheerleading is an extremely dangerous sport and it is important that there is proper safety equipment being used. Due to budget cuts, our district does not fund high school sports. It is up to student athlete families, fundraising, and donations to fund high school sports. We are in desperate need of basic safety equipment.

In order for our team to practice and perform tumbling and stunting skills, safety mats are required.

Once our team has safety mats we can practice and perform at games and events.
