"If the United States is to hold a competitive edge in a rapidly changing global workforce, bolstering the national science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) workforce is essential. The nation needs to connect students to jobs of the future by reengaging them in these important fields." -NEA
The planning of this trip was inspired by the overall goal of our STEM Program which is to provide the STEM student population with as many in-field STEM experiences in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math.
One of our many goals is to expose students from a low- income/low socioeconomic status to careers in fields that may not be as obvious or as attractive as others, especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.
My Project
As students begin to embark on this journey, they will not only focus on standards, but hopefully gain a deeper understanding, both visual and concrete, of the roles and responsibilities of the individuals who are actively in involved in the aviation and space industry. It is our goal that this trip will spark an interest in students to pursue careers in the Space & Aviation Industry for the betterment of society.
When students are able to see and experience concrete examples of what they learn in class, the learning becomes more meaningful.
The district has put emphasis on student exposure to various types of careers and jobs especially in the areas of STEM. Their socioeconomic status can sometimes limit their experiences outside of the classroom. Visiting the U.S. Space & Rocket Center will provide an experience that they may never attain.
