My Students
I teach 4 to 5-year-olds who are energetic and full of life! Most of them have little to no prior school experience and come from very diverse backgrounds; however, despite their backgrounds, my students come to school every day doing their best and giving it their all. They are developing a love for learning and gaining lifelong skills to prepare them for future success.
By creating a classroom environment that fosters a love for learning, I can nurture their curiosity and prepare them for the next step in their education.
My students love to sing, dance, build, and socialize. They also enjoy playing games and can get very competitive.
My Project
In a pre-k classroom children spend part of their day engaged in unstructured play. During this time they are playing with their peers in learning centers and developing/refining so many skills. Research shows that early math skills are a stronger predictor for school success. I would like to be able to provide more intentional learning materials during choice time to help strengthen my students’ math skills.
Providing opportunities for students to engage in math activities will also increase their problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Although I embed math into my daily routine and implement math activities during my large and small groups, these materials will allow my students to engage in more math learning.
