Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 7th grade students are amazing out of the box thinkers. To them, they are future youtube stars and instagram influencers, but to me they are the future lawmakers and lawyers that make social justice a possibility. They need plenty of practice reading fluently and presenting their ideas in front of an audience. I love having students orally present to each other, but sometimes students are too shy to practice in front of the class. What to do? Bingo! Have students practice oral presentations on a computer, where they can do as many retakes as they need!

I'm planning to have students use these headphones to listen to book read alouds, to record themselves presenting an oral history project, to interact with a video lesson, and to give actionable feedback to a peer's presentation.

In order to do all of that, students need high quality headphones with a built-in microphone for the full professional experience.

My seventh grade students are the most magical aspect of teaching. They come to me with real world experience, having come from far flung countries within their lifetimes, and speaking more than seven languages as a group (some of them are functionally trilingual!). I want to have ALL the flags that represent my students' home countries! More than 65% of my students are English Language Learners, and my job is to get them to be reclassified as proficient English speakers. I work hard to give them the academic language to express themselves so that they will be able to express to others the richness of their own experiences.
