Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second grade scholars are excited about tech but rarely have the chance to use it. I want to change that ! My 30 second graders are the best and I want them to achieve in this fast paced world. However, because of where they live they do not have a real opportunity to use play outside on a daily basis. I teach in a high poverty area with little to no school resources and it is important for second graders to be physically everyday.
My Project
Studies show the importance of recess for various reasons. Students get to be active, stay healthly and work on their social skills. Often adults forget how much we learned during our outside/indoor play time.
My students love recess, but often they do not know what to do with this unstructured time and lack of recess supplies.
To help with this issue, I asked my 2nd graders what supplies they would like to use at recess. they wanted things to do on the blacktop so I want the active mats to help them. They requested puzzles and math games to work on with their peers. They also wanted a rug to sit on as they stay active. I love the idea of team building during recess. In addition, they wanted wobble chairs so they could move while working on their academics. All of these requested materials will give my scholars a chance to be physically active, develop team building skills and problem solve.
