We want to rock in 2nd grade, but we have two major obstacles! My students have old and out-dated desks and we need more books to expand our classroom library. My students love working with manipulatives and collaborating in groups, but the desks and lack of books make it a challenge.
My 2nd grade students really love learning.
They are wonderful seven and eight year olds, who want nothing more than the opportunity to learn. The resources I have asked for will help with this. They love collaborating in groups, working with manipulatives, and being creative in their work.
My school is a low socio economic school in Louisiana, and most of the students do not have much! They work very hard and are appreciative of everything given to them. The resources I am asking for will help to engage them in learning and ensure them the learning opportunities they deserve!
My Project
The resources that I have requested will benefit and engage my students in learning. The tables and chairs will take the place of their old out-dated desks. With these new tables they will have a flat surface to work on. Their books will stay flat on their desk and they will be able to use manipulatives without everything falling on the floor every time they move. It will also be easier to work in groups and collaborate. By working in groups they will gain social skills that will help them through out life! Also by working in groups they will be engaged in learning. They will be able to talk to their group about their ideas and share strategies or tips that helped them when they were working. When they can talk and share their ideas they are learning and teaching each other!
The books will expose my students to the type of text they need to be successful now and in the future. By reading both non-fiction and fiction books, they will be prepared for the PARCC assessment in 3rd grade.
My second graders are amazing little people!
They truly enjoy learning, and want to learn everything they possibly can. This project will build on their love for learning. It will have a positive impact on their lives and their education.
