My Students
My students are ready to listen! My students love hearing people read to them and we already have an amazing listening center in our classroom, but our CD player is broken and we only have 1 book on tape! We need more!
I teach 30, very energetic, second graders.
They are from a high poverty area where education is not a priority. More than half of my class is reading below grade level. Most students do not hear a story before bed or hear their parents read to them at night. The only time they hear someone reading to them is at school. The school community here is loving and caring and we want the best for our kids! I try to come up with new and engaging ways to help them learn. They are so appreciative of everything and really do enjoy learning. They learn best when they are having fun in the activity we are doing.
My Project
The students will use these books on tape and the listening center storage unit during centers. They LOVE hearing people read to them. During center time I work with a small group on guided reading while the other 25 students do different things around the classroom. The chart stand will be used during group time as well as with large group activities. These new books on tape will engage readers and help them learn to read more fluently. The best way for a child to learn to read, is to hear it being modeled. They hear how the words are being read and how the sentences use expression. The storage unit will help my students become more organized when returning the books and cleaning up at center time.

This will engage them during centers and get them excited about listening to books! These students will become better readers because of you! Watching a students eyes LIGHT UP while I am reading a story is so amazing. Watching them laugh and enjoy the story is even better. These books on tape, CD player and storage unit will be so helpful in my classroom and my kids will be so excited about them!
