Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low income, hard-working families. In my 2nd grade class I will have students fresh off of almost a full year of Distance Learning, and many are English Learners. However, they are eager to try new things and work hard each day.

My students always make me smile, and I love watching them grow as learners!

We also spend a lot of time building a sense of community in our classroom. We learn that making mistakes is okay, but it's not okay to not try. This is a lesson that the students take to heart, and one that sticks with them all year, and hopefully throughout their lives. Giving students choices to choose where and how they learn best helps them stay motivated and engaged.

My Project

Students are returning to school after a year and a half unlike any other. Curling up with a book on a bean bag chair can become the extra incentive that student need to pick-up that book. Studies have shown that flexible, welcoming spaces had a startlingly large effect on learning. An added benefit to these bean bag chairs is that they are easy to clean, which will help make sure we are learning in a safe environment. Building a strong classroom community is essential to learning, and making our classroom a welcoming and safe space for all learners is a priority for me.
