Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low economic backgrounds where their neighborhood is surrounded by negativity, crime, and violence. Somehow my students manage to come to school every day despite their current rural surroundings.

My school is a safe haven for all the children in the community where they can come and feel safe and know that each person in the building loves each of them whole-heartily.

The majority of my students are more than two grade levels behind and need additional material in order to build them up to their rightful grade level. We currently have about 50% of our students who reside in a homeless shelter nearby. Based on the current data, students require additional phonics practice to build them up to their current grade level.

My Project

Here's to a second chance in 2nd grade! This school year is the year the focus will be to remediate all the skills lost and or not focused on in the past two school years due to the pandemic. Students in second grade will benefit from the use of primary K-2 journals daily. In the past previous school years, students utilized intermediate journals which proved to be non-successful within the classroom. Students in grade 2nd will use this journal to review phonics skills, sight words and review vocabulary, and improve writing skills daily during whole group and differentiated instruction (small groups).
