My students need 5 Blackberry tablets to conduct research and create various multimedia projects and exhibits for the 2nd Annual 3rd grade Museum of History and Science.
Our third grade students are allotted one 30 minute period in the computer lab each week. The classroom computers are old, require frequent maintenance, and unable to support the software required to create multimedia presentations. A lot of time is wasted trying to get the computers to work.
Our 3rd graders are an awesome bunch!
They are enthusiastic, curious learners, and attack challenging assignments with fervor and passion. Over 75% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many do not have access to the Internet and computers in their homes. A recent review of assessment data indicates that 47% of the 3rd graders are performing below grade level. However, we expect to close the gap. We are combining the students' desire to learn with our commitment to exemplary instruction, and expect high student achievement across all subject areas.
My Project
With the funds from a Donors Choose grant, the 3rd grade team will purchase 5 tablets. The tablets will give students unlimited access to the Internet to conduct research. Students will have the resources to develop multimedia presentations with programs such as Prezi, Glogster, and Voki. Furthermore, they will have the technology to create books, posters, and even movies! We won't have to fight for time in the school computer lab and students could work on their projects before and after school. Teachers will use the tablets to enhance student learning, productivity, and increase motivation to learn, and most importantly, instill a love of learning. The culminating project is the transformation of our classroom into a museum. The students will display their projects for their school community and families. The third grade students will act as tour guides and dress as historical figures to share their knowledge on a plethora of subjects.
The 3rd grade team is committed to improving student achievement.
We have strategically designed learning experiences in which students are active participants. The increased rigor and relevance, high standards of achievement, and the incorporation of technological tools will give rise to a positive learning environment in which all students are motivated to learn and perform to their full capabilities.
