My Students

I teach almost 500 kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade students in Kansas. 35% of my students receive a free or reduced-price breakfast and/or lunch. There are also many special education students and ELL students (English language learners). I try to find new and interesting ways to help my students learn using music.

We will soon be adding a Maker space to our school and after attending the Pathfinders Winter Institute I have some amazing ideas I want to use with my students.

This project will help us to get started with some cardboard creations and making 2D to 3D art! My students will start by drawing a 2D instrument. Then we will make a slotted cardboard creation of the instrument to make a 3D creation.

My Project

Do you remember when you were younger and made creations out of cardboard boxes? I love this project because oftentimes you can get cardboard for free and students always love the freedom of building and being creative.

Students will be building slotted 3D musical instruments and learning about the properties of musical instruments.

Students will need tools like cardboard cutters, cardboard scissors, and building tools like brads. This grant will get us some idea books, tools, and the connectors we need to create this projects. The students and I will be collecting cardboard for this project.
