My Project

Thank you for considering supporting our classroom! I teach sixth-grade science in a low-income, high-needs school in the city where my students come from a beautifully diverse range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Many of them are English Language Learners or have limited access to school supplies at home. Despite these challenges, they are curious, eager learners who thrive when given the right tools and opportunities. Providing consistent visual supports—like a science vocabulary word wall—has made a huge impact on their academic confidence and comprehension, especially when navigating rigorous content and new language at the same time.

To maintain and expand our word wall, I am asking for cardstock and a laminator.

The cardstock will ensure that the vocabulary cards are durable and bold enough to catch students’ attention from anywhere in the classroom. The laminator will help preserve the cards throughout the year, allowing us to create a lasting resource that can be reused and referenced as we explore new science topics. These sturdy, visually engaging tools are particularly helpful for students with IEPs and ELLs who benefit from repeated exposure and clear, accessible language supports.

Additionally, having a classroom set of colored pencils and a reliable pencil sharpener will allow my students to engage in more creative, interactive science activities. Whether they are drawing models of sound waves or color-coding phases of the moon, the ability to use color helps bring science to life. These materials may seem small, but they play a big role in helping students stay engaged, organized, and proud of their work. Thank you for helping me provide my students with the resources they deserve to succeed.
