Help me give my students the opportunity to learn to Code, create their own documentaries using iMovie and use different learning applications with these iPads.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are creative, enthusiastic learners that love learning about the sciences, enjoy solving challenging problems together and building innovative solutions using creative materials. It starts with having the technology readily available in the classroom. My students are kinesthetic learners and learn new concepts more efficiently when lessons and interactive and hands on.
Our school is a STEAM magnet center and we provide integrated curriculum that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics.
Our school is a Title I school where all students qualify for free lunch and come from low-income families. Regardless of circumstances, my students are eager to learn and reach their academic goals. Funding has been limited these last years, and these STEAM resources will help our school provide learning experiences that would help our students comprehend big concepts & make learning them more effective. My students love engineering and having a STEAM resources readily available would allow our students daily opportunities to collaborate, design solutions and learn to work collaboratively.
My Project
These iPads will make a tremendous difference in my students' learning because at the moment I have only one iPad for 24 students. The problem is that it's very old and because we are a STEAM school I teach my first graders how to code (computer programming). Our technology is so out of date that we couldn't connect to a robot I got for the class because our iPad didn't have bluetooth capabilities. Having 2 more iPads will allow me to continue with my robotics lesson plans for my students and have them experience the application of coding and running a program and seeing it live as they give the robot the commands. They will be able to revise their thinking in case the code they wrote doesn't give them the result they wanted. Through this trial and error, it is that they will hone on their coding skills and will be able to see how coding words and how it's applied in the real world. The next step after that would be for them to build their own robot-True robotics.
These iPads will give me the ability to teach my students how to create their own documentaries for oral presentations with iMovie and how to use applications that review different content skills in reading, phonics, mathematics among others.
More students will have access to technology because now we will have 2 more iPads. Students will be able to display and present their learning in different ways. I plan on using the iPads during my small group instruction, so that as I teach targeted skills to students that need that instruction, I can differentiate instruction for other students by using the iPads to challenge or provide intervention lessons.
