The students in my classes are seventh grade students with special learning needs. I teach children who have learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, Autism and physical limitations. These students need to be able to integrate seamlessly into the general education Social Studies classroom with technology that is portable, multifunctional, and accessible.
My students may have special needs but they are very creative and very intelligent.
They are eager to learn in their own special way. With the use of current technology, my students will be successful and increase their basic skills set in their Social Studies classroom.
My Project
My classroom wish is to provide current writing and reading technology for our most at risk students in their Social Studies classroom. I teach middle school students with special needs. Most of my students perform far below grade level in reading and writing. Currently, the technology available to support their writing needs are Alpha Smart word processors which were developed in 1992 and discontinued in 2013. Unfortunately my students who have the greatest need for support have the oldest technology to use. I would like to purchase three Apple iPads with keyboard cases that can provide portable support that is multifunctional and accessible in their Social Studies Classroom.
