21st Century Readers

My students need a Nook Color to experience the joys of electronic reading in the classroom!

My Students

Even the most reluctant reader could be lured into reading using a new color Nook from Barnes and Noble. I have some students who have trouble "getting into" books. This e-reader would allow students to fall in love with everything from free classics to the hottest new novels.

My students are a very different group of 7th graders.

Some students live in the city, others the country, and some in the suburbs. Some students have read hundreds of books and others struggle to find a single book that interests them. Some students are several grade levels below 7th grade in terms of reading. However, all of my students love technology and new gadgets.

My Project

I am requesting a new Nook Color from Barnes and Noble. This will allow students to download books and magazines from the Internet to read. I also plan on downloading novels we read in class on the Nook so students can follow along on it. I have also requested a protective cover and a screen cover to keep the Nook in good shape. This Nook will encourage students who don't like to read to try another method of reading.

This Nook will generate a lot of conversation and excitement about reading.

Students will be able to use a Nook for the first time. Also, students will have a chance to interact with text in a new way. This Nook will show students that reading is a fun and cool activity!
