My Students

Remember the tape player your teacher used to play music and from which you listened to wonderful stories? My classroom probably has the same model tape player!

My class represents over ten countries and includes immigrant and refugee students.

Over 90% of our school receives free or reduced lunch. Energy and excitement about school and learning abound from my twenty eight students. Their ability levels are as diverse as they are. This year my students range from those learning their letter sounds to those who can read at the fourth grade level!

My Project

Reaching and engaging twenty eight students at their level is a fun challenge and finding activities they enjoy makes it easier. Our school has about fifteen books on tape that interest my students. Seven year olds quickly go through such a limited number of stories. By updating our classroom listening center I will be able to supplement our book on tape collection with those on CD. My students will have more opportunities for stories come alive. English Language Learners in particular benefit from hearing the text that they are reading. The wireless headphones will allow students to move more than two feet from the tape player. They will actually be able to get comfortable as they read!
