My 4th graders are amazing. They are highly proactive and love learning. I want to continue fostering a love of learning by making sure they have 21st century skills and authentic opportunities to practice them.
My students are mostly on or above grade level; however, I am the only English as a Second Language endorsed teacher on my team.
Therefore, I get to have all of the ESLs in my class. I want to make sure my ESL students have the same educational opportunities as my native speakers. High quality, engaging materials can help motivate all my students, ESL and native speaking.
My Project
My students will use the computers to foster 21st century skills. They will practice typing, create paragraphs, use ESL programs, visit different regions of Utah using the computers, and learn how to code. Students will also use the computers to upload photos they take and print them out. All of these skills will help prepare them for life.
In 4th grade, we learn about Utah History. Computers are an amazing tool that allow students to visit and learn about different parts of the state without leaving the classroom. In addition, my students have started learning how to code. Having the computers in our room, will give them the chance to work on code when they finish their work.
Donations to this project will help my students gain 21st century skills in an authentic way.
They will be able to use the Macbooks to enhance their learning by searching the web for information and improving their typing skills. Typing skills are important because my students will take their end of year tests on the computer and be required to type their answers. Giving my kiddos the opportunity to hone their computer and typing skills will help them succeed in 4th grade and in the future.
