I teach a group of high-need second graders in a rural community that suffers from high unemployment and rising poverty. Many of my students never travel outside of our small community and have little or no access to the use of computers outside of the school day.
Although my students struggle in many areas, I do not feel that they should have to do without the use of computers during class time. With 20 students, and only 3 computers available, the waiting list for computers is long and students have to wait in order to research, write or play learning games. The addition of the HP Laptop computer that I requested will help give each student much needed computer time.
Because a third of my students have disabilities, I feel that the HP Laptop will serve these critical needs. Anything that is presented using a computer holds their attention and allows them to learn critical skills needed for the 21st century. If I receive the HP laptop computer that I requested, my students will have access to another computer, and it can be used to power the smartboard for interactive learning. The media rich materials presented using the HP Laptop will reach more learning styles by presenting information that comes alive with sound and visuals.
I am trying to ensure that my students have the equipment necessary to learn the technological skills to be successful not only in school, but also for the future. Please help give these children a chance at 21st Century success!
