My Students
My students are a diverse group of 4th and 5th graders with a wide range of cultural backgrounds, languages spoken, and learning styles. My students come from the Philippines, Mexico, China as well as the Bay Area.
We work hard every day to build a classroom community that allows for all learning styles to be respected and met.
My students have an incredible range of interests and learning modalities. They take great initiative in self-directing their learning, often asking me to order or check out books, researching a topic they are interested in, sharing resources with each other, and asking new questions. They are incredibly creative - creating comic books, writing narratives in their free time, designing whole worlds and characters for their stories, and ALWAYS drawing! They most love field trips, reading and hands-on learning.
My Project
In my classroom students use laptops to publish essays and stories, research across topics, engage with educational software, and collaborate with one another via Google Classroom & google docs.
These computers will provide accommodations to students with learning differences that will also benefit all learning styles within my diverse classroom.
Having access to laptops in our classroom will enable and empower students to explore their interests and curiosities in a productive way.
Living, and learning in the 21st century, my students are constantly excited by the opportunity to apply their computer knowledge to their writing. By drafting both fiction and non-fiction pieces using google docs, students are able to share their work with me. This enables me to give direct feedback that students are able to then communicate with apply to their writing.
