Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being surrounded by a class of opinionated and intelligent curious minds never ceases to amaze me. My days are a constant shower of excitement, motivation and pride from my lively group of predominantly Latino third graders.
We are a Title I School in the San Fernando Valley within Los Angeles county with a close knit community full of students from various cultural backgrounds.
As a Title I school, many of our students come from economically disadvantaged households and often cannot donate every year to a new classroom.
My classroom has a diverse mix of students, including our third grade English Learner cluster. My students and I love to learn, experiment, question everything, and work together to create a fun and caring classroom environment.
My Project
In modern classrooms, it is absolutely crucial to utilize technology regularly to give students access to learning important 21st century skills. Every school has different levels of access to technology, depending on the amount of resources available. Currently, my class lacks everyday access to some form of technology. My students can practice typing once a week, but for many, it is not enough.
My students need a technology center that they can use during small group time where they can research, type, and use important resources to expand their learning beyond the walls of our classroom.
Many of my students do not have access to technology for educational purposes at home. Using technology regularly in the classroom will instill the idea that ipads and laptops are important tools that can help them grow as learners and feed their curious minds.
I know this is a lofty goal, but my students have lofty ambitions and ask endless questions. Giving students the opportunity to take charge of their own learning and answer their own questions through research would be a valuable development in our classroom community. Thank you so much for considering this project, I greatly appreciate your contributions to the betterment of education.
