21st Century Classroom Wanted!

My students need 4 Chromebook computers and 6 headphones to prepare for the PARCC Assessment coming this spring!

My Students

My students are eager to learn! They like to have fun, but when it's time to get down to business, they are on it! Computers are mainstream for many middle schools now - including turning in papers, testing, and reading texts. They deserve to have the same resources.

I teach 6th grade in North Lawndale.

I have students age 11-14. They are a previously undeserved population before AUSL and CPS came in to turnaround the school. Now, they have a climate and culture that reflects a place of learning. I also have 20% diverse learners that push into my classroom. They enjoy technology and are able to do the same work my general ed student can do when provided with assistance. All my students are smart, kind and capable of learning. Standards have been raised and they are learning to meet them slowly but surely.

My Project

I am requesting chromebooks and headphones so my students are able to have the same resources other students their age have. The PARCC assessment will be computerized in the spring and my students deserve as much time as possible to use computers so they become second nature. Technology class once time a week is not enough! In addition, I have diverse learning students who can use the technology to complete same or similar assignments as the other students in my class. I can also assign class work online through Compass learning and they are able to complete when done with classwork. Last, I have students who enjoy typing up their final drafts of essays but often do not have a place to type. With these computers my students will be able to type and save to flash drives so we can print them out.

As I mentioned above, my students will take PARCC in the spring.

This is the common core aligned assessment the entire country will take. The assessment is going to be on a computer so I need to ready my students any way possible. In addition, my students are able to complete work online when they are done with class work. This includes my high performing students who deserve to be pushed while I work to bring other students up to grade level.
