21st Century Abacus

My students need a classroom set of calculators. The math part of STEM is becoming more important in every course students take.

My Students

STEM means Science Technology Engineering and Math. STEM curriculum is becoming part of every subject in high school. Further, in our overcrowded school, I am a floating teacher: my classroom is on a cart. I rely on what I have on the cart to teach lesson. We do not have calculators on the cart.

I love my students!

It is so exciting as a teacher to have your students teach the class. Not only are they teaching but they are learning. When students complete one of the science based math problems, they put the results on the board. When you only have 8 calculators for the class, not everyone has an equal chance. Our challenge is the simple technology part of STEM of missing calculators. When one student can show others how to solve a problem, everyone learns! My high school students are absolutely amazing. In my science classes they are kings and queens. They are engaged and love to learn and that is absolutely all that I can ask for. I want to give them as much as I can in terms of technology and that is where I need your help. Our school cannot provide me with an extra class set of calculators that will really make a difference. Science is the equalizer with a lot of kids and I am making it my mission to have the best group of students possible.

My Project

I truly believe that when students have equal access to simple technology, amazing thing can happen. I want to be able to provide my students with a calculator they can use during class without having to share with two or three others. I know that it will make a big difference and allow all of my students to be successful in the classroom. My students deserve the best. Thank you so much for considering this project. I am so excited that when we return to school, my students will be surprised the cart is fully stocked with supplies JUST FOR THEM! I really appreciate Donors Choose and their commitment to helping teachers. Thank you again for your help.

As a floating teacher, it is difficult to enter another teacher's classroom and use 'their stuff'.

Often, supplies are missing, locked up or not working. You will be giving my students a leg up with their own STEM equipment: Technology for doing Math.
