Our students attend a Title I school where our poverty rate and mobility rate are extremely high. Most of our students eat the majority of their meals at school for free. Although our students may have difficult home lives, they are extremely smart and eager to learn. They love to read, write, and do anything hands-on. They are excited and energetic every day which, in turn, inspires us.
Most of my students do not bring their own snacks to school and therefore, they rely on me to provide a snack for them.
We are lucky in the fact that our school provides fruit or veggies as a snack option (most days) but sometimes it's just not enough. I cannot let a kid go hungry! Some of our students heavily rely on the food we provide for them at school. We can't expect them to learn and grow their brains if their bellies aren't full.
I like to fill my snack cart for them to have yummy and healthy options. I even have had students from other grades pop into my classroom for a snack because they know I always keep my room stocked! I am trying to plan for next school year and start my snack cart early!
