My Project

Ernest Childer's Middle School has some of the greatest students in the area. Most students are thankful for the effort of their teachers and are very respectful of the classroom equipment and decor that we have. I have taught U.S. World History for the past several years and will be adding Geography to courses I will teach this school year. I always strive for an engaging classroom with of visual aids that we return to repeatedly throughout the semester for precise details about a topic. I realize that I am lacking in Worldwide geography aids and would love to better assist my new Geography students.

I continually asses the effectiveness of my classroom to see what is going well or poorly and what can be done to improve those aspects.

Two of the most glaring issues, I observed last year was cleaning supplies and organization for table groups. Students would often be supplied with items to help with a group activity or discussion but those would fall to the ground throughout the day. Providing boxes with lids for such items will be a huge addition to our classroom's arsenal. A broom, dustpan, wipes and cleaners help everyone to have a hygienic and hospitable space.

I truly try to have students engage with history instead of simply reading or being lectured about it. We often do role playing games as a teenager in Boston around 1775, or as a member of the Corps of Discovery, and I have found that atmosphere in the classroom often helps students to immerse themselves in history. Almost every addition that I make to the classroom is a way to either help students engage better or the streamline our efficiency in the classroom. I believe all the items in this list will lend towards those goals.
