My students are deaf, hard-of-hearing, and deaf-blind. They have hearing loss ranging from mild to profound. My campus serves as the high school level Regional Day School Program for the Deaf in our area.
My students are bused in from surrounding school districts to receive specialized services such as deaf education teachers, an audiologist, speech pathologist, teacher of the visually impaired, and sign language interpreters.
Most of our students come from low-income households and many have limited access to language (spoken English or sign language) at home. It is imperative for our students to learn new skills in hands-on, visual ways!
My Project
My students are excited to graduate! They've worked hard since they entered our deaf education program as babies! (Yes, literally, babies - diapers and all!) What a long and rewarding journey it has been since they were first fitted with hearing aids/cochlear implants and/or learning sign language. Many have had countless hours of related services including speech, auditory training, and interpreting services. They even got to experience their first pandemic during high school! They're such troopers!
With the last 2 years of their high school, experience dampen by COVID-19, we would really like to throw them a great [socially distanced] senior celebration bash and give them some well-deserved parting gifts.
I am requesting travel tumbler mugs and Class of 2021 wristbands. These items will be used in a customized swag bag. We even are going to create a "photo booth" so I am asking for photo props.
