Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all Hispanic. Most of them do not have a computer or other technology at home. They are exposed to violence and socioeconomic limitations like lack of food or resources others take for granted. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. In my classroom, my students get to dream with the sky as the limit. They've planned future traveling plans, designed their dream homes, and have become celebrated community heroes. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming big is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. They will thrive as enthusiastic learners when they are provided with memories that will last a lifetime. They will experience and recollect their memories in a whole new way.

My Project

Our wonderful school has a garden but the upkeep is solely based on what teacher wants to dedicate his/her time and money to keep it going. I believe that creating a garden, watching the plants grow, and eventually eating the vegetables from the garden will help students see science from a different point of view. Every year my class is the motivating force to keep our school garden green and clean. We are proud to motivate other classes, parents, and even members from our community to come and celebrate our gardening skills. Having created this garden has empowered my students to appreciate nature more, improve their eating habits, and want to do more for our environment and others. This is the reason why I have asked for soil and a variety of seeds to kick start our 2016-2017 school garden! Statistics prove that there is endless opportunity for society to become more eco-friendly, and in our case, our class contributes with an edible garden!
