Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a high-risk, low social economic area of California.
Many come from single parent households, with a high percentage living below the poverty line.
They live with daily violence in a community that visually seems depressing. My students want to learn and thrive but have very limited resources outside of the school. Our teachers and school staff work very hard at enriching the lives of the students at our school. We want the very best for EVERY student. However with limited financial resources our students don't always have what's needed to have adequate access to the essentials of learning.
My Project
The daily math journal will be used to practice the skills that are taught through distance learning.
When students use math journals, they will able to examine, express, and keep track of their reasoning, which is especially useful when ideas are too complex to keep in their heads.
By reading their journals, I can evaluate their progress and recognize their strengths and needs. The math journal thus becomes a great learning tool for both the students and the teacher. This is why incorporating the daily math journal is a needed asset for my students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
