My Students
My students live in a high poverty, urban area. They go to a community school where every child receives free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Many of our students live in public housing, with relatives, or are homeless. Many of my students are second language learners. Many of the children do not have their needs met at home. This is often due to lack of finances, long work days, and everyday stress.
My students are excited to come to school and crave the routine of our school day.
One of the main focuses of our school is to integrate the arts into learning.
My Project
I am requesting Math games such as Number Rockets, Count-With-Me Cookie jar, and Ladybug Number matcThe Math games I requested will be used in the Math Center or for small group activities with a teacher. Students will have the opportunity to recognize and name numerals, count objects, sequence numbers, and learn to use the last number counted to say how many. The children love to count aloud and sing math/counting songs, but currently we do not have many math materials that they find interesting enough to play with on their own. Adding these new activities will spark their curiosity and provide them with a challenge.
As adults, we know how often we use math in our everyday lives.
It is so important to build a strong math foundation in our young children. These materials will provide countless hours of quality play time, which will keep the students engaged and learning.
