This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you read or listened to someone reading a book? My first graders are in need of materials to help them become fluent readers.

My school has about 1300 low income students, who live in a gang infested neighborhood.

My classroom is their safe haven and the place they look forward to coming to on a daily basis. All 31 of my students look forward to read aloud time. They absolutely love to listen to someone read. Students in my first grade class live in a single parent household or have 2 parents who work long hours to make ends meet, therefore they do not have many opportunities to listen to someone read to them at home.

My Project

With your generous donation my 31 first graders will be able to become fluent readers and start their love for reading by using the science read along books for our listening center on a daily basis. Specifically during our literacy centers which include a component of listening to reading. This will help my students recognize sight words, listen to fluent reading therefore improve their own reading and comprehension skills.

Your donation to my project will make a difference in the lives of 31 children and their ability to read.

Teaching is a rewarding experience, but it takes quality materials to make it effective. First grade is such an essential year to learn to read. Please partner with me to encourage the love of reading in the lives of my 31 first graders! Thank you for your consideration!
