My Students
My first graders are developing a love of school and math. We are a school that is using blended learning to personalize instruction for all students. My goal is for all my students to be proficient or advanced in math by the end of the year
I teach a first grade dual language class.
I have 50 students, 25 students in my morning class and 25 students in my afternoon class. My students are a diverse group of future leaders who love to learn and show tremendous problem solving skills. Our school is focused on developing our students' talents and passions. We strive to teach character education and all the academic skills students need to succeed in their future career or college.
My Project
My students need math tools, including four Giant Magnetic Ten Frames, two Ten Frame Answer Boards, four Hands-On Ten-Frames and the Math Stories Paperback Library for small group math instruction. These tools will be used to help provide support for students in addition and subtraction. My students will use these math materials, ten frame boards and math literature books to develop number sense, mathematical thinking, mastery of addition and subtraction and algebraic thinking. As a blended learning school, I will use these ten frame boards and math materials with all my students during my small group instruction to meet the needs of my advanced, proficient and basic students. The math literature will be used for whole class lessons to introduce math concepts such as time, money, patterns, addition and subtraction.
This project will make a difference in the lives of my first graders because these math materials will help to build a strong mathematical foundation.
This strong, mathematical foundation will help these students progress to the higher level of math skills required in high school and college.
