This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This past year was my first year of teaching 1st grade, and I must say that it was a humbling experience. As a new teacher, I was learning of all the many ways that students learn and their individual style of learning which makes them all unique.
My students were eager to learn as they transitioned from virtual learning to in person.
I was able to witness my students grow in their learning as they returned to the classroom. They were able to use materials needed in order to complete assignments.
As a new teacher I am still working on filling my tool box. However, after looking at my students data I can see that I still need things to keep my students engaged, provide academic resources, and most importantly, intervention. Academic and social emotional intervention will help close gaps that some students may have due to the pandemic.
My students come from low income families and I don't want that to reflect on their leaning. I am a true believer in every student deserving a chance to succeed in a school setting no matter what their home setting might .
My Project
This project will help me in supporting my students achieve reading goals. Due to the pandemic, many students will be coming into school with lower reading levels and our classroom library will have books of all levels to help them build confidence, and reach reading level.
When students can connect with books they are reading, the become more excited and interested.
The books I have chosen will allow ALL of my students to not only see themselves in it but also, get excited to read them. I am excited to start our reading journey!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
