I teach 23 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. My students come from working families that value education but do not always have the resources or educational background to provide reinforcement of skills learned at school. When they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn. I have taught first grade for 5 years and been a member of ATPE. I love what I do and love ATPE.
My Project
First graders love stations and working with hands on materials such as matching games and puzzles. Our class needs containers to keep our stations in so they can be kept nice and neat. We also need some arts and craft station materials such as cards, cardstock and colorful pens.
My students work so hard and deserve some extra fun materials to make stations more exciting.
This year we have been talking a lot about tattling and talking without being called on. The books I requested "My Mouth Is a Volcano!" and "A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue" are perfect for the students to relate to and learn about these topics.
