The current pandemic has put a halt to many classroom endeavors, putting large numbers of students at risk of academic regression. Since our population is 100% Title I, our county is working hard to curb food shortages, but academics are still expected to suffer. Moreover, our students are already under-served in terms of academic related resources, supplies and support.
Limited resources and restrictions on the use of school equipment have left many educators unprepared to provide rigorous, engaging lessons that prevent students from falling behind in academics during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students who struggle with day to day educational opportunities rely on varied modalities for learning and differentiated instruction. Additionally, 21st century learning opportunities require more than the use of personal computing devices. Reducing student exposure to tools for learning and a declination in educational interest should NOT be outcomes of mandated school closings.
Students like mine are at-risk of not being best prepared for their next levels of learning because of tools unavailable to me at home. With the help of supporters from DonorsChoose, I can add versatile tools to my classroom that can be used in a variety of environments.
My students will use the projector to view guided materials and to watch me model various assignments/processes from home. Additionally, we will use the WiFi ability to instantly stream images, diagrams and other supplemental materials.
While the projector will allow me to model instruction and guide students through visual supplements, the green screen will allow me to take my class anywhere in the world, reducing the lack of exposure, interest and participation anticipated during recent school closings.
The greatest expectation is that classroom engagement will not suffer as long as effective, 21st century engagement tools are implemented into non-traditional environments.
